Family Room in Progress, need your help!

So today I need some suggestions from all of you. I am working on re-freshing the Family Room. I found these awesome large Wood Wall Hangings at WORLDMARKET a couple of weeks ago. They have this pretty wood carving design in a terra-cotta-ish color. They also compliment the Ginger/Red wall color on the other side. The problem is that now my old Sofa pillows just don't look good anymore and I need to find some cool new throw pillows, preferrably LARGE ones. This is where I need your help. What style/color pillows would look good and do you have a suggestion for an on-line store. Also I still need some matching side table lamps! Any input appreciated!

Here are the side table lamps I've been eying for a while....found them at Vistastore.com but over $200 a piece...nope not gonna happen....suggestions???
This is what I had in mind as far as colors and style of the pillows....This one is from Etsy. I see this style a lot lately, French Linen aka Grainsack Pillows.

Soooo Ladies (and Gentlemen), let me hear your thoughts...Thanks for stopping by!

  2. I love the new artwork you hung above your sofa! It's perfect there. I love the creamy throw you have draped on the sofa as well. I would recommend some burlap pillows with writing on them for your sofa. I think it would fit in nicely with the leather. My favorite source for pillows is Etsy.com. I would type in what you're searching for and see what comes up. You can also try Ebay.com and Decorators Collection.com.

  4. Thanks so much Holly...yes you are absolutely right about the lamps, I've seen nice ones at TJ Maxx too..will have to go there a bit more and look out for Lamps with a nice base I could spray-piant. I suppose I could always add the burlap shades later.... Worldmarket has nice ones....We don't have a Homegoods, but we have Ross and Marshalls..I just have to make it a point to pop in those stores more often until I find something that works..next on the list are pillows...Have a great evening and a glass of wine (or two).....

  5. I agree with Holly about TJ Maxx and Marshalls. They usually have great selections on pillows and lamps and now even some furniture items.

I think your living room is very pretty. Love the light colored throw on the dark sofa.

I am so bad at making suggestions so I am just going to say trust your judgement and take pictures. Look at the pictures and they will tell you if you like what you have done.

  6. Hi Christine! Love the wood carvings...one of those would look so good on my fireplace mantle.:) You know the lamps look like newel posts. I wonder if you could get something like that at Home Depot and make it yourself? PROJECT!I like Pottery Barn pillows, the down ones. They are so comfy. My husband told me,"No more uncomfortable pillows!"They are a little pricey but worth it because you can keep the inserts and they come out with new covers every season so you can change them out if you want. I wait until they're on sale at the end of the season when they bring new styles in. Thanks for following me. I'm joining your blog too. I know what it's like to be new. I just started mine in October and get so excited when someone joins!

    1. Thanks Alyssa for stopping by. I really love your style. I hope you got my comments on your blog...I have the Kilim rug you made into an ottoman in my dining room. what a great idea. Your style looks a bit old world, a bit rustic, a bit Medditeranian....sort of a mix of things which is what I love...

  7. IKEA also carries down pillow inserts; if you're handy with sewing, you could make some covers yourself out of any fabric at all. I like the look of burlap, but it's scratchy and not likely to be very comfortable...French linens are hard to find and expensive...so I personally would do thaisilks.com for luxurious, less-expensive, and substantial fabric like this - http://www.thaisilks.com/product_info.php?cPath=1_22&products_id=291 - you would only need a yard or so for two big pillows). I'd do an envelope style pillow cover because it requires no closures, no fancy stitching, and keeps the pillow 100% covered.

For the lamp, could you just cover a regular shade with spray adhesive and burlap? I don't know...would that be dangerous? I feel like I've seen others do it. And then spray paint mismatched Goodwill lamp bases or wrap them in jute. Maybe that would get too monochromatic. Looks like you've got good taste, though! Good job so far!

    1. Thanks Girdie for visiting my little new blog. I will definately check out the link you attached. Unfortunately I don't know how to sew although I have a great machine. I wait until my Mom comes and visits and then she gets to do the work...lol...You are right about the lamps, I am already keeping my eyes open for something I might be able to spraypaint

  8. i definitely like the direction you're going. in my opinion, you need some pattern in there...so that's what i'd do with my throw pillows. of course homegoods is the place to go, but you said online. maybe target? home decorators? etsy? good uck, and can't wait to see what you choose!

      Thanks a ton.

  9. Love the wall hangings! Think I'll head to World Market! For pillows, I'd go for some pattern to keep things interesting sinch the sofa and wall hangings are solid colors. Also - round pillows would add interest since sofa cushions and wall hangings are square. Good Luck! Catherine (new follower)

  10. I like the off white grain sack pillows with stripes you showed, but how about adding one small pillow in a very bright accent color? I would go with a bright red that is different from the wall color. It would really pop with all of those warm earthy tones! Then echo that bright color with one small decorative object either on a side table or on the mantle.

You did great with those wall hangings, they are fabulous! These are my favorite decorating colors! -- Min

  11. Great wall hangings! Ann at On Sutton Place sells grain sack pillows on etsy. I follow her on G+ and she has some cute stuff. And Kirklands.com sells cute lamps that aren't too expensive. Not sure if the shipping would kill you though?
