Today I want to share a dear friend's house with you.
My friend was very tired of her decor style and ask me to
help re-decorate various rooms in her house
She didn't really know where to even start and what style she wanted.
So I put my thinking cap on and created a few collages in PicMonkey
to give her ideas of what I can visualize in her space
Here is a Before of the Family Room
And here is the collage I created for their family room.
DON'T JUDGE the sloppiness of the collage please.
I am not a professional Designer and I helped her with my ideas
& opinions as a friend, not for money. I created them quickly, only
to give her a visual of what I have in mind!
And Ta-Dahhhhh, here is the AFTER
What a difference!!!! They did purchase a new sectional and moved the old
leather sofa into another room. The sectional fits the space perfectly.
I found those gorgeous wicker plates on the wall at Target, they add such warmth
to the space. The floor pouf is also a Target find. The other accent pieces (such as
the coffee table, side table, table lamp and chair) are various finds from Marshall's,
T.J. Max, Home Goods, etc. (YES, she was very busy going shopping!).
Don't you just love the layering of rugs??? It's a jute rug with
We found this gorgeous old window frame at a local store
during a shopping trip last summer. Her husband hung it
up and she added some tiny string-lights.
OK, off onto the foyer BEFORE
And AFTER -- She moved this pine dresser from her master bedroom
into the entry. It's a much more neutral piece and allows for
changing the decor much easier than before.
She decorated it so beautifully with more finds from Marshall's,
Ross, etc. The new modern rug really makes the dark wood floors pop.
Next stop -- The Dining Room BEFORE
This was a very dark & gloomy space, due to the wall color.
The family never really used the formal dining room, so she had the
wonderful idea of making the space into a library instead.
Here is the collage I created for inspiration
Here is the AFTER
First project was to paint the walls. Her husband
painted the walls from the dark red to a light grey, which made
such a HUGE difference. They found these beautiful
book cases at World Market.
Here is the sofa that used to be in the family room. The carved
art work is also a Target find. The silver hammered coffee table is from
Let's go see the kitchen nook BEFORE
Here is my design board for this space
I have always loved this table from World Market. Plus, the price was right!!!
The texture of the wood is a bit rough and rustic. I think it will
hold up well against every day abuse.
The chairs are also from World Market
And so is this gorgeous bead chandelier.
They also made a few little changes in the
kitchen, so here is the scoop ...
The Kitchen BEFORE
They have a pretty large kitchen with lots of tall, dark cabinets.
They took out one upper cabinet and added white shelves
from IKEA to allow for a more open feel.
These gorgeous white leather bar stools are from Pier 1.
They look super good next to the dark cabinets for a pop of contrast.
They also took out the doors to the kitchen island and gave the inside
a coat of Annie Sloan paint
And AFTER
Super cool, isn't it ???? So much more personality!
Off to the Game Room BEFORE
And AFTER
As you can see, they took off the white wall shelves and
got rid of the blue accent color.
Well, that turned out to be a long post. I hope you enjoyed the tour.
I think my friend and her husband deserve a big round of applause....
They pulled all these changes off over the summer. That was a ton of hard work!
Geesh! As for myself, I still have my Halloween decor up !!!! LOL
I love to hear what you think!!!
MUAHHHH
Christine I'm blown away! They all turned out so phenomenal! I have to say my favorite is the dining room transformation into the library. Love love love!
ReplyDeleteWow, what a beautiful transformation. Sometimes just taking one color out of the room makes a ton of difference. Bravo to your friend. She has a lot of beautiful pieces of furniture in her home.

Thank you for the pictures.
Greetings & Love
Ines

ReplyDeleteLovely transformations, Christine! You might not be a 'professional' designer-but you know your stuff, girl! I think my favorite is the opening up the kitchen island! What an awesome idea!!
ReplyDeleteI like the window you posted on funkyjunk. I have some old windows and am always thinking of new ideas but yours is really nice. I like the way it feels in a room to have some string lights lit, it warms up everything. Nice Blog too!

That window with the lights is wonderful! Great idea! My sister brought me two old windows when she drove down from NY. They have sat in my basement for about a year waiting for the "right" project. I'm scanning my walls now to see if I can do something similar. Beautiful conversation piece.
