Hello Peeps, I made a little change to my lamp shades in the Family Room yesterday. I tied some burlap ribbon around the white shades and voila....a nice little refreshing change....
I previously had some different "burlappy" ribbon with red stripes glued onto the shades but somehow I got tired of it really fast. Probably because both the sofa pillows and the lamp shades had the same accent fabric and it was a bit too boring....Here is a BEFORE AND AFTER
Also I wanted to show you my new rustic candle holders for my formal Dining Room I purchased while on vacation in Arizona this summer.
I have been thinking about giving my Dining Room a new look. I really want to brighten things up. Here is a picture of it (I have never been able to take a good picture of this room, the lighting is tough).
I would like to get rid of the terra cotta accents such as the rug and get a JUTE Rug (see inspiration pics below).
Also I would like to cover my dark green Dining Room chairs in a French Grain-sack fabric such as this beauty from Vignette Design
What do you guys think??? I am sure it would be tough and spendy to get custom chair covers made?
On another note, I have been worried about our 11 year old Newfoundland Bruce. He has arthritis and last week he took a turn for the worse. He is hardly moving around anymore and often-times I actually have to slide him on a rug to the sliding glass door so he can go outside.
He is the best big Teddy Bear ever...what a love!!! We got him on some different meds now and I hope he feels better soon. Well, that's it for today. I LOVE to hear from you and I read each comment!

DeleteThe small change to your lamps have a big impact-love it! (And I love those slipcovers, too)
ReplyDeleteYour poor dog-he looks so cute!! Hope he's feeling better soon :)
Susan
Thanks Susan..he is feeling better as of today!!!!
DeleteWhat a fun way to change the look of the lamps! Love the color and texture of your new rustic candle holders, great find! I'm so sorry to hear about your little buddy....I hope he feels better real soon! Sending a hug your way...
ReplyDeletemoni
Thanks Moni,he is feeling better as of today!!!
DeleteTying the burlap around the shades is a fantastic idea! Perfect accent!!!
ReplyDeleteMary Alice
Thank ya Mary Alice, small change but effective!
DeleteYour burlap ribbon looks pretty tied around your lamp shades. I love the plans you have for your dining room! A jute rug and grainsack upholstery on the chairs would be gorgeous. If you can use fabric that is not from old grain sacks, it would be less expensive. I think it gets expensive when you use the vintage textiles.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kelly, I am on the look-out for a Jute Rug...checking Craigs List and also some stores.....After that it's looking into slip covers...ohhh if I only had a lot of $$$ and could do it all today!!! LOL
Deletehi Christine, I do love those grainsack covered chairs! I am so sad about your sweet puppy, so hard to see them suffer...Good luck with your dining room, I can't wait to see what you decide!
ReplyDeleteJenna
Thanks so much Jenna, Bruce is feeling better as of today....so relieved!!!
DeleteHi, Christine! I love the burlap bow on the shades! It is amazing how just adding a little extra touch can totally change the look of something! I love all your new plans for the dining room! I'm almost, but not quite, finish getting all the red and taupey gold out of my home! I've probably purchased 7 different samples of paint for my dining room but still can't decide on which color!
ReplyDeleteLol Tammy, funny how our taste changes over time...I guess we just get a bit bored and need a refresh every once in a while....thanks for your visit!!!
DeleteHi Christine. I'm amazed at how much texture has an impact on the look of the room. The new lamp ribbon looks great. Bruce looks completely huggable. I hope his new medicine brings relief.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your visit and comment....Bruce is doing better as of today!!!! Mommy is so relieved!
DeleteLove the inspiration pictures for your dining room. It's much more neutral. You could still use terra cotta as an accent, too. Sorry to hear about Bruce; hope he feels better soon. I'm visiting from the On Display Monday link party.
ReplyDeleteChristy @ Creating a Beautiful Life
Thanks for the visit and comment Christy....will have to go visit you next!
DeleteCute with the new ribbon - I like it better too! I want to go tie burlap bows on my lamps now! Hmmm, wondering if I have some burlap in my cabinet....
ReplyDeleteSorry about your pup! He's looks very sweet and handsome! :)Julia
Thanks so much for the visit Julia....Pup is doing better as of today...Hurray for meds....
DeleteGreat new look. The burlap is a nice addition. Burlap has a fall look to me.
ReplyDeleteThanks Tammy!!!! glad you stopped by for a visit
DeleteI'm so sorry to hear about Bruce :(. There are few things worse than seeing our fur babies sick. I hope he feels better soon!
ReplyDeleteThe lamps look adorable btw!
Thanks Doreen, he is feeling better today!!!
DeleteHi Christine,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the shout out! Actually, I think you could slipcover your chairs rather reasonably. The feed sacks cost only $27 each. Each chair took three sacks. I did have a professional seamstress make them, but they would be fairly easy to make yourself. Just get a strong needle as the fabric is very thick and tough.
Sorry to hear about your doggie. Hope he is better soon. ~Delores
Thanks so much for the visit Delores, thrilled you stopped by...I will start looking for fabric and a rug.....Unfortunately I don't know how to sew...haha.....I wish I did now!!!! So I will have to get them done by a seamstress as well.....Bruce our Newfie is feeling better since yesterday. The new meds kicked in. I am so relieved!!!! Love your blog and all the wonderful inspiration!
DeleteChristine, I hope that Bruce will do better. I know that there is a great med at the vet's office to help with arthritis. We have also had success with buffered aspirin. But they have to be buffered. We love our critters and want to make them as comfortable as possible. I hope Bruce is soon back on his feet!
ReplyDeletepatty
Patty thanks so much for the sweet comment....he is feeling better as of yesterday. Able to get back up by himself...Mommy is so relieved!
DeleteThose little touches mean so much! So cute, and I love burlap:)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Debbie!!
DeleteLove your burlap additions to your decor!...and hope Bruce is feeling better!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Shirley!!! He is feeling better!!!
DeleteLove the burlap, what a great way to dress up a shade. So sorry to hear about Bruce. Thanks tons for linking to Inspire Me. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteThanks Marty
DeleteFirstly I hope Bruce improves he is such a cuddly dog, give him a cuddle from us. Secondly, I love the burlap additions to your lamps. I can think of this in my own living room for my autumn makeover! xx
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Chel...he is doing better thanks to new meds!!!!
DeleteAwww, hope he's feeling better. LOVE the new look!
ReplyDeleteHe is doing better thanks to new meds...Thanks so much for the visit!!!!
DeleteHoping your dog feels better soon. The chair slips are pretty but an inexpensive idea could be to buy the chair slips from Sears or somewhere fairly reasonably and then paint on a faux grainsack stripe with paint and fabric medium, or just tack on some upholstery webbing. Your rooms look great and I really like the little crate with the blanket tucked under the table.
ReplyDeleteElizabeth, that is actually a wonderful idea....trying to find some neutral chair covers and adding either fabric paint or better yet add some burlappy accent fabric somehow.....thanks so much for the idea!!!
DeleteAwe,poor pup! I hope he's doing better. I like the new look though!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the visit Allie
DeleteBurlap is always the perfect touch!! PS...now I want to hug your sweet dog :( Hope he is feeling better!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Laurel, he is doing better thanks to new meds....Mommy is thrilled!
DeleteBig hugs on the dog, hope he is feeling better
ReplyDeleteI agree with the Burlap, easy to use and looks awesome
Brucie is doing better!!! Thanks so much!
DeleteI see Bruce is feeling better in the comments! That is always good news. Love your touches of burlap. I too am in the process of leaving the darker colors behind and brightening things up. Your inspiration pic is great. If you sew it probably would not be too hard to make covers. If not try Etsy sometimes you can find great deals on there from people who just like to create and not charge an arm and a leg. Thanx for joining THT!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Pamela!!! Etsy is always a great resource
DeleteLooks great! And I think your dining room would look great how your envisioning too! :o)
ReplyDeletePS. I liked you on FB!
Tania

DeleteHi, Christine! I am popping over from Twigg Studios - my first visit to your blog.
ReplyDeleteI love your tastes, they're similar to mine.
I would keep your green dining chairs, a touch of green is awesome in a room! :- ) I think they're fabulous.
I am going to go peruse more of your blog. Take care and have a great remainder of weekend! ~Michele
Michele thanks so much for the comment LOVE....so thrilled you came by. I think I will get the new rug first, change some accessories and then see about the chairs...They will probably look totally different after things lighten up in there....
DeleteAh, forgot to say I am so sorry about your whooly mammoth cutie pootch - saying a little prayer - could it be drug combination doing it? Hope not, but that happpens to humans, it sure could happen to pets, I can imagine.
ReplyDeleteALSO, I am your newest follower. : - )
Thanks so much for that...Bruce is on 2 meds now versus 1 and feeling better.....I will visit you now
DeleteHi Christine!
ReplyDeleteI love the burlap... And the way you've lighted the twigs. It's very cozy looking. I want to get a jute rug for under my dining table too! I think it's the only type of rug that will be easy to clean if I spill something. Hopefully? Sorry about your puppy. I have two puppies, and they both have issues, so I know how that feels! And... I like the chairs the way you have them now, but I know change is fun too!
Karen
Karen, thanks for the sweet comment....do you have a blog?
DeleteHi Christine. I'm visiting from The Tablescaper's. I love how you have changed up your lampshades. And I know what you mean about changing around the DR. I think it is bad for us to blog, BECAUSE there are too many other ideas out there that we like! I'd like to change mine too. I have Victorian but I'm getting tired of the fussy wallpaper and I think I can still make it less fussy but still stay in the realm of Victorian. Sorry to hear about your beautiful dog. Our Buddy is 11 or 12 has the same thing going on. He can still get up by himself but loses his balance quite easily. He is on Rimadyl, but I think it's just a part of old age for him. Golden's are notorious for bad hips. Think good thoughts for them..Happy Weekend..Judy
ReplyDeleteHi Judy, thanks so much for the sweet comment.....Bruce is on Rymadyl too and we now added some different meds on top of it...Luckily he is doing better now....Will have to visit your blog as well now...Thanks Judy
